But is it on target? At 15 yards — where most of the work will be done — even! The 1.875-inch barrel pistol has a factory-installed crimson laser grip, which activates when you grip the revolver's rounded stock. Of course, there's a ramp up front and an integral rear sight for support. By the way, the DAO (double action only) PC 442 comes without an internal locking mechanism, which is always a plus when talking about S&V. MSRP: $822
I hate to break it to you, size does matter. It's pretty short in the barrel section and a good portion of that powder you're burning evaporates into the air. All you're left with is a bunch of flash and poor ballistic performance — especially from a big dog like the .357 Magnum. Therefore, Ruger's addition of a 3-inch .357 Magnum LCRX barrel is welcome.
Certainly, the lighter magnum does not achieve the velocity obtained from the 6-inch revolver - but not by much. That said, you are well equipped with this LCRk. As for its added size, especially compared to many other options on this list, yes, it is large. However, not limiting. The stainless steel Ruger is still very stealthy and doesn't carry a load at 21.3 ounces unloaded.
True, it's not as streamlined as other concealed carry revolver options. It offers adjustable rear sights and open spurs. Still, Ruger manages to keep it all very unobtrusive, keeping the LCRx running smoothly once you get used to the system. MSRP: $719
The .38 Smith & Wesson: History And Performance
Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years, it's impossible to miss that Colt is back in the double-action revolver game. The relaunched Snake line of guns has generated all kinds of chatter, but none more so than the return of the King Cobra in .357 Magnum. This relatively small 6-shot revolver that is no longer serviceable has all the makings of a great concealed carry option – especially now with the release of the Bob-Hammer model.
The King Cobra Carri is similar to the Hammer model released in early 2019, except the spur is unshaved and equipped with a 2-inch barrel. These modifications give the revolver excellent carry characteristics, making the shorter barrel as light as most chest-mounted .38 Specials. A spiked hammer accentuates his already unstuck frame.
However, there are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to the King Cobra. First and foremost, a 2 inch barrel won't make the magnum's performance any easier - it won't come down to the standard +P .38, but it won't improve either. Next, all that burning powder has to go somewhere, and that's in a burst of flame from the muzzle. As far as the hammer goes, the gun is a simple DAO, which you don't have to worry about if you're buying to carry.
Overall, the stainless steel concealed carry revolver is attractive, with pigtail covered grips and a brass front sight and integrated rear sight. The gun holds six rounds and weighs a very manageable 26 ounces. All in all, a great accessory for company and a great choice for those who prefer an iron on their hip when going armed. MSRP: $849
Shooting The Snubnose Revolver
Not a new concealed carry revolver by any stretch of the imagination, but worth adding to the list. The M206 Spurless is a true workman's caliber .38 Special, short on glitz and glamor and long on performance. And, most importantly, affordable! This is rare these days, but very welcome.
How Rock Island accomplishes this is by downplaying the aesthetics of a steel-frame revolver and focusing solely on performance. and double-action with a bold 6-shot, 2-inch barrel. The trigger is surprisingly smooth for an entry-level revolver, its timing is impeccable, and the front ramp and fixed rear sights are quite accurate. It also comes with some desirable features, such as checkered wood grips, ejector rod covers, and a Colt-like cylinder release. In addition, there is a choice of parkerized and matte nickel finishes.
The M206 presented a problem, at least for some, by not listing Rock Island as a +P rate. Generations of law enforcement have accomplished their mission without a hitch. 38 In particular, the speed at which it travels does not always correspond well with modern expanding bullets.
